Our service

The Bromley Parent Engagement SEND Service (run by YVHSC) is a champion for children and young people between 0 – 25 years with SEND who live in the London Borough of Bromley. Our service strives to ensure parents/carers of children with special educational needs and disabilities have a voice so they can get the best out of current education, health and social care provisions.

We believe that EDUCATION, health and social care services for those with SEND must be Appropriate, Accessible, & Acceptable

We believe parents and carers of children & young people with SEND are at the heart of why we exist. Our vision is to create and facilitate a group led by parents and carers who will highlight good practice across services as well as bring gaps within current provision to the forefront, so that improvements can be made.

Our regular reports and updates will direct our findings to Bromley Clinical Commissioning group and the London Borough of Bromley – the two key commissioning agencies with the power to make changes.

Reaching members of seldom heard communities who are not always at the forefront is our priority and YVHSC want to shed light on the opinions of those who are less advantaged. We will work hard to reach people who aren’t already engaging and give a voice to those individuals and communities.

Once our data is collated and analysed, we identify themes and trends and report these to commissioners and service providers so they can understand, from the patient/service user perspective, what is working well and where there is room for improvement. These reports are published on our website quarterly.

This service is supported by a well-trained team of volunteers and there is plenty of opportunity to get involved.

Our service will:

  • Establish and have in place a parent led steering group

  • Feed into an annual programme of engagement activities

  • Collect parent and carer feedback and experiences on relevant health and social care services

  • Have a particular focus on ensuring the voice of more disadvantaged parents/carers are heard and responded to

  • Analyse and report quarterly on feedback received, identifying themes and trends

  • Communicate effectively, providing relevant information and feeding back to parent/carers our findings and next steps

  • Recruit and support parent/carer representatives to sit on boards, committees and at other tables ensuring the parent/carer voice is widely represented at decision making tables

  • Carry out outreach activities/workshops/focus groups/training sessions providing platforms for greater sharing, intelligence gathering and peer support.
